The latest Winamp versions use libopenmpt for playback - apart from the fact that the version they use is several years old by now, there is no reason that MPTM files should sound bad in it. libopenmpt does not support VST plugins and does not support external samples, so those are the only two possible reasons why an MPTM file would not play correctly in Winamp (or indeed any other module player).

QuoteSo, are there any music visualizer plugins out there (in whatever form), that you guys know of, which are known to work with OpenMPT?
You could try searching for VST visualizer/VJ plugins. There's no reason why a specific VST plugin wouldn't work with OpenMPT while working with any other VST host, but if it doesn't, I'd rather like to hear about it and try fixing it.

Ever since I learned that WinAmp was being made open source, and saw that it could [attempt] to play MPTM modules (it didn't do a very good job), it made me realize that I haven't seen any WinAmp (or WMP, or VLC)-style music visualizers specifically for trackers. But just because I haven't seen them does not automatically mean they don't exist!

So, are there any music visualizer plugins out there (in whatever form), that you guys know of, which are known to work with OpenMPT?

No, the template location is fixed, but you could remove the template folder and recreate it as a symlink to whatever folder you want it to point to instead.

Help and Questions / Change Default Template Locati...
Last post by paper_mint - Yesterday at 19:46:01
Hello, was wondering if there was a way to change the default template save/load location. I'm using openmpt through wine and it tucks the templates away in the wine directory under appdata/OpenMPT/TemplateModules, so it'd be nice if there was a field in paths for this purpose. if not I can work around it by just creating a file shortcut to be able to get there more easily.

#Skippable Introduction
I have a peculiar fascination with vocal sample manipulation and vocal synthesizers, so unsurprisingly I had to come across Delay Lama at some point.
Sometimes I'm in the mood of fiddling around with my synthesizers in an attempt to test certain features and to bring fourth their functionality.
This one experiment turned out quite well (given the software limitations), and since I haven't seen others doing something like that with this iconic plugin, I decided to share my findings here.

#The Actual Tutorial:
-------
A.Set up two Zxx macro configurations, one for Vibrato (B001z) and the other for Volume (Bc07z). As of writing this OpenMPT doesn't have universal Volume control, so using a separate column for the Volume is a advised. Both effects will be using two dedicated channels. Delay Lama doesn't have polyphony, but the second channel can be used for a softer transition between notes.
If you don't plan on using the second channel for anything other than its given effect, then just write down the instrument number in the row, so that the effect will be triggered.
-------
B.On its own Delay Lama would have a fuzzy noise. It absolutely can have its use cases, but since I'm going for a "clearer" sound, my goal was to remove it.
To address that, I chained the VST through the default distortion plugin. You'll need to set the Edge to 0 and keep the PostEQCenterFrequency and PostEQBandwidth around 260-150 with the latter being set slightly higher.

The default portmanteau effects can be used for Vowel control, but if you want to stick to midi effects, then you can set a Plugin Parameter Controller.
I hope that this was informative. If you have ideas regarding unorthodox set-ups of this or other plugins, then feel free to share :)

General Chatter / VLIW processors remind me of t...
Last post by Amaroq Starwind - Yesterday at 05:42:53
I'm being completely serious here. Have you ever seen the raw assembly of a program for a VLIW (very long instruction word) processor? It looks just like a pattern in a tracker module, multiple notes (instructions) playing simultaneously, row-by-row...

And that's one of the reasons I love them so much.

What do y'all think of my analogy? If you want a good example of VLIW code, I recall there being at least one such processor in the Sega Saturn.

My mistake!
I look forward to the next major update.

Not a single OpenMPT example module requires external plugins. It would be pretty pointless to ship example songs with an application that won't even play correctly right after installing the application. :)
Only the modules in the "example_songs_ompt_1.*.7z" files are example songs.
The other files are tutorials for questions that have been asked on the forum. You probably downloaded pcnotes.mptm, which was an early demonstration for the forum users how PC events work. You can replace Electri-Q with literally any other plugin to see the effect of PC events.
