Using a 22 EDO scale with Garritan Personal Orchestra

I actually composed this yesterday and got confused and thought it was 12 TET.... my brain was not functioning.

Here is the original dry piano only

And here is the recital in the hall with percussion

This is the same midi file run through soft synths, Korg MS2000 and GPO brass and GPO percussion. I find the middle interesting when GPO kicks in. Reminds me of Edgar Varese. I can say that because it was all indeterminate and I can take very little actual credit. It is what I came up with yesterday in the midst of my confusion.

Yes - this is the same file as yesterday. Its here because its related.

Of course your mileage may vary and all that.

Hmm. nice, this 22 EDO..
I'm not sure whether Edgar would have used a piano for this, but anyway.

you are probably right about the piano and Edgar. what I had of his was orchestral. I think I heard his Density 21.5 for flute once.

You do know that if you use samples Open MPT supports microtonal tuning, including 22 EDO.

It would be great to hear what you could do with it. 19 and 31 EDO are supposed to be good too but I haven't tried them yet.

I have tuning files if you need.

I have tuning scales, and example openmpt module and screenshots

I'm using version 1.7.... 48

in the instrument window there is a tunings button below which is a drop down box. select control tunings to change your tuning.

For new scales the trick is to drag and drop your "sandbox" scale into the "local tunings" area.

Do put the the tuning files included into the tuning sub-folder of openmpt -before- opening the module. it makes it easier.

I'll try to answer questions - but I'm no expert.

(22 TET = 22 EDO)

I should add

what makes this implementation strange is that now you use more of the alphabet to enter notes or right click and choose.

compared to a staff or piano roll I found it really, really tedious and confusing.

However - your mileage may vary.

I have used a midi keyboard to enter notes in FT and MPT before...

so that's a good alternative. - In fact that should let you improvise in microtonal tuning using MPT like a VSTi I think.... at least it works for the normal scale - could work for another.

the example - with some chorus and reverb

and this is another bird all together

24 notes per octave done in 2001 by detuning crappy piano samples
