(In The Rooks Have Returned (1871) by Alexei Savrasov, the arrival of the rooks is an early portent of the coming spring.)

The Seventh Rook is a piece composed for solo microtonal piano in the Rook scale commissioned by John O'Sullivan who devised the scale. Rook is a subset of Raven version temperament. More tuning information is at John's website. The score is here which includes the cents value for the Rook tuning. The piece was composed and realized using Sibelius and Pianoteq.

This is really cool! I'm always looking for some good alternatively tuned music.

Thank you!

You can check John's website (linked on my blog post), or the microtonal subreddit or the facebook Xenharmonic Alliance II group for more.

How do you go about implementing this in modplug?

uncloned

you'd be best to ask the developer types here how the microtonal section works now-a-days.

Alternate tunings only work with samples and you can apply arbitrary tuning systems to them.

Last copy of modplug I have (which is years old) doesn't have much in the way of documentation of this feature.

I have never used custom tunings so I cannot help you. However, the tuning functions haven't been changed since years, but if you followed the changes this website went through, you have might noticed that we have a proper manual these days, with two big articles on tunings.

I am happy to be corrected then :-)

Also, I used the VSTi pianoteq which supports microtonal changes natively - which means when the tuning has more than or less than 12 notes you have to do some translation (or just use your ears).

As for this tuning in modplug. If the tuning portion of MP hasnt' changed then you should be able to import a scala file

this is the tuning used

However, I did it in Sibelius (which lets me use traditional notation) but I have worked microtonally with MP tracker, just not recently. One could write the piece in MPT - its just a different work flow.
