New Website in the works?

I am wondering if there is any update in the making still of Modplug Central. I remember that LRPchip spoke about this a couple of months ago. Since I do not want to be negative, I just want to send some positive reinforcement along the way.

If there is anything new coming along, great. If it stays the same, I'll be fine to.

But it really would be nice with simpler and updated main site. Maybe just removing some things would also do great things for the layout (like ditching the name generator, stuff like that).

I am supposedly working on this together with ResidentGrey. Both of us haven't had much luck and time etc getting to work on this as we want.

I do have the basic for what we want, but its not completed enough. ResidentGrey knows someone who has written a framework that we can use for this. He offered his help, and we need to get into more details about this.

As for the mainsite, I cannot really make adjustments there.

Maybe I'll install SMF and do some small mods on that making it atleast a bit more descent. That shouldn't be too much work. Thats my backup plan atleast.

I did found some great mods that will also allow me to do things like bug support.

I wanted to make a new system so I had the full control of it, and could add it all the way I want it.

But I'll see what I do.

I might go try setting up something in SMF and make that public. I have to look into getting something to upload songs into etc.

Yeah. I've just seen so many websites go down because people who made them did not make it clear for themselves what they are making, for what and for who.

However, today MPT is a small and robust community of friends which makes it work. So I think a new site might work anyway.

I do know what I want. Thats not the problem. Its just so much work, and I have so little time to actually make it. I remember asking way back if people were willing to wait for me to make a new system or to use an existing one. I thought I would be able to get some time free to make this, but I guess the size of the project is a bit too much for me. I've made the foundation, but I'm troubled getting things glued together. I actually started the project like 3 times over to get the basics right.

So I'll look into getting another forum system ready and do mods on that one, as doing mods on that one actually allows me to update the forumsoftware without losing the changes.

My philosophy in that situation is to put out at least something that actually works and then add features. Otherwise the new project may never surface. If a project is big, I personally try to make it small by providing myself with a necessary minimum rather than the desired maximum.

Oh, I also do that. But the minimum is still quite large.

Out of curiosity, which minimum are you looking at? A forum? Upload area? Are you planning to use a forum engine or writing one of your own? What kind of upload area is being planned? Is it based on an existing engine?
