entry for a battle of the bits VSTi competition.  we were required to use a very limited chiptune-oriented VSTi as our only sound generator--it only produces aliasing square waves!  needless to say, the tune features quite a bit of processing

made in openmpt, as always

Fat !! Love this.. underlining high speed and excellent development.

One comment about the production :
The basic drum and bass is much narrowed down to the center channel, with the reverbed-extra's wide around it L/R.
This material could have a spread around the center panning of instruments from let's say -60 upto 60.

Nice new cat-pic btw. Does the cat has a name ?

Oh, fu**! This is GREAT!
Can you tell what this chiptune VSTi is? Just to know how limited it is, to feel your greatness so to say :D

Saga Musix

Really nice D&B! Superb production as always. :)

Sounds great, not square at all.

Notes as i'm listening:

Aha, this is drums-n-bass? Always wondered.

Sounds like some Ambient mixed in between the rhythmic clauses. Love the strong inorganic kick and the industrial pad for those. Whoa, i found some interesting time signatures, or perhaps rhythmic counterbeats! And good ending.

Worth keeping for something but not background music -- it's too strong and deviant.

Sure!  It's uB's Medusa VSTi, described here:

and available for download here:

Yeah.  By the time I got to this part of the mixing, I got irritated with my computer's poor performance and decided to render what I had.  The overall balance on the tune isn't where I want it to be, and a lot of sounds are still too hard-edged (like the snare--it doesn't groove at all).

Neither cat is mine!  :-)  Both are amusing photos I've found online.

That shoul be a LOT of processing to make this thing sound like that!
Meanwhile there's a VSTi that uses only pulsewaves, if someone is interested:

very nice song, though you had me confused with the BotB (Ballet Of The Bits), which i normally recognize as 'Benefit of the Boomerang'
