the joys of being one of hundreds of thousands of artists posting one of millions upon millions of songs.....

Original release text:

I slithered out of the slime of the vast cybernetic musical greed machine.
With tangles of red tape and legal entrapments my art was thusly weighed
down with the sins of the masses searching for the quick dollar and quicker
mainline to the ego. Yea! Look upon the grim faces pleading that you be their
next virtual perverted lover. Slowly it dissolves into a purple gas of foul
and putrid smell that eats its members in a display of auto-cannibalism.

Out of the ashes I am renewed...

Sam_Zen

A joy indeed.
One of the backgroud samples seems quite familiar to me, having it in one of my songs, but I haven't found which one yet.

I think it must be coincidence since I generally make my own samples sans percussion and the excellent "real bass" sample.

Check out the module and see

Sam_Zen

Thanks.
A coincidence indeed. It is sample 5, but because the cymbal is played an octave lower, it seems similar to something I used.
Nice text by the way.

Ok, cool. Perhaps you can post yours?

Thanks on the text - it was all mp3.com was about before the introduction of "pro" artists and collapsing.

I have the sound exactly in my head, but I can't associate it with a title yet.
Yesterday I did a search-listen in my archives, but no luck.
But I'm getting close.

EDIT: Found it. It appeared to be a track from 1980 of the NulA ensemble, of which I'm a member.
This one is a real-time recording with my friend Richard Davies, who's playing the Synthi AKS too and an EMS vocoder.

Sam..... wow

it is like Tangerine Dream meets Santana's rhythm section!

You were doing some great stuff then!

Sam_Zen

Thanks for the compliment. The actual sound (I suppose you know which one I meant) was made by Richard.
Great stuff maybe, but at that time it was not understood.

maybe just not the right crowd?

tangerine dream found an audience

at least me and my friends liked to listen to say Ricochet when we found some good smoke....

and Mahavishnu Orchestra too

that was the music we though was unobtainable to make - ever.

hope you don't mind  posted you song link to the private section of So On

Sam_Zen

Well, we didn't make any effort to search for which was the 'target' crowd, as is custom in the today's market.
We were playing pre tangerine dream by the way.

And the Mahavishnu Orchestra... now you name something...!  Birds of Fire is my favorite.
I was musically touched by jazz first in my teens, before I encountered the electronics, so might be an explanation.

About the mirror song link :
Normally I don't fancy deeplinks, because the author doesn't have any chance of getting extra visitors.
If it's a private section, it's another case. It becomes more like a blog example.
So a direct link could be acceptable.
In both cases, the user should have the decency to mention the author of the source.
Plus, for the elegancy, a link to the author's site.

this is exactly how it looks - if you want it modified I will

and... how do I send you a PM here?

This is from the guy who moderates the modplug forum

Tangerine Dream formed in 1967

Ricochet came out in 1975

I will post what I was doing musically in that era a little latter this weekend.

Sam_Zen

Yep, I was a bit exaggerated with 'pre..'. I studied a year sonology in 1972, and bought my synth in 1975.
Quotehow do I send you a PM here?
I don't understand.. With the PM function I suppose. :)

If you mean that the text of your post after "..PM here?" is placed on your forum, it's ok by me.

Accidentally Richard Davies visited me tonight, listened to the piece, and affirmed that he played that sound.
He is now mainly working with VST plugins, but still has a strong preference for structures with a touch of random.
