Can I replace or swap samples?

I would like to swap out some samples that I have in an MPT song for some "trimmed" down samples (smaller bit rate and resolution).  Is this possible to click the sample and replace it with my new "lightweight" sample?  
My original track's samples were 44.1 16bit rez.  I need to get the song smaller in size (filesize).

Sure.

Open the samplewindow and either click open there or use the treeview on the left. Navigate to the new sample and either open using the open dialog, or drag the sample from the treeview to the sample window.

This will replace the sample just like that.

The same can be done using instruments, but using instruments might not get your samples removed until you do a cleanup->samples.
