After unpacking I could play the song with the ole Modplug player, but you warned for difference of playback, so I opened the it-file with OMPT. Then I got a popup with :

Warning: this song was last saved with a more recent version of OpenMPT.
Song saved with: v1.17.03.00. Current version: v1.17.02.45.

After OK, OpenMPT loaded the song, and I admit that the playback offers much more dynamics and panorama than the old player.
I agree on the hunt feeling.
