Outputting midi from a VSTi to a sampled instrument (non-VST)

Use case scenario:  Let's say I have a VSTi that outputs strummed chords, I want to control the VSTi with instrument 1, and send it to instrument 2 sample based instrument (non-VST)

Or even better, lets say I have a sample instrument paired with a VSTi, and the midi only sends to the VSTi then plays the samples with the midi output from the VSTi.

Is any of this possible? Thanks!

It's not possible to send MIDI data to non-MIDI instruments, but you can record the generated MIDI output of the VSTi to patterns: https://wiki.openmpt.org/Manual:_Plugin_Window#Options
