I started a new song.
New module, I imported samples, typed a few base notes.
Now I want to save the file as .mptm to use all features of the tracker.
I Select file type from the list - There is only .it format.

I do not want to save the file as .it

Once I saved a file as .it and it became degraded to 4 channels, many options unavailable.

I am afraid if I save the new music as .it, I will not be able to revert it to .mptm format.
I need help. I leave the computer turned on, MPT is open with an unsaved file, waiting for quick advice.

In OpenMPT, editing a module is already limited to the features supported by the currently used module format. You can select the module type when creating a new module, see https://wiki.openmpt.org/Manual:_Menus#File.

In order to save the module in a different format, you need to convert the module to the desired format first, and then save it. See https://wiki.openmpt.org/Manual:_Song_Properties#Track_Type and https://wiki.openmpt.org/Manual:_Saving_and_exporting#Saving_tracks.

Not sure how that would have happened.
