Hey, this is my first post on ModPlug Central. I'm new to tracking and would love to get advice on what kind of direction to explore. I have a fair amount of music background, including university training, but this is definitely different than finale, but I like it for the difference it offers.

This is a pretty familiar tune to most people, I used it mostly because I knew it, and I knew the chord structure, so it seemed like a good starting point from which to jump off.

This is basically my first composition in this method; I did the tutorial from the modplug starter kit, and then this piece. Thanks in advance for advice, tips and critique!

P.S. Sorry it's only a soundcloud link and not actually access to the file. I know my dad has an ftp server I could use, but it's pretty late now, so I'm not able to get the info from him just yet. Next time, it'll be better.

Hello and welcome to ModPlug Central!
The arrangement is nice but the tune is a bit short of course. Not a bad conversion for a start. Now it's time to move away from the standard MIDI Library samples to some samples that actually sound good. :)
Have a look at our sample sites topic for example.

Hello from me as well :)

As well as trying out some quality samples, I would suggest trying out simple synthesizer VST instruments. Take a look at http://www.tweakbench.com/ for example. Learning to use synthesizers is fun, and their possibilities (compared to samples) are endless.
