Quote from: "Harbinger"Ooh, irony indeed! The calm before the storm...

Actually i remember "the Coming Ice Age" was a topic during the Carter years, when i first became politically aware, very late 70s. But it died out pretty quickly compared to GW.

1984 - 1985 which is where and when I remember the record cold. Looks like 1985 was the one I specifically remember because there were two weekends.

But here is an ice age article from 74

QuoteSince the 1940s the mean global temperature has dropped about 2.7° F.

So yeah, statements like that - put out in the general news and sensationalized, distorts what  science is there.

As you can see here

the above statement and the current talk about global warming do not violate the data.

However, this country (USA) is totally polarized and no one wants to work with, let alone understand, the other point of view.

Things like the following only add to the fire of irrationality.

Both political parties are only interested in finding ways to be in office instead of truly solving the country's problems together. And the immediate danger is fiscal which started long before Obama. Both parties have been robbing Social Security for decades....

To repeat... BOTH parties in America are failing.

Slowly the snow is vanishing here. This is the entrance path seen from my house.

One could argue about the average temp going up or down, but I notice that things are getting more extreme.
More rain or snow, stronger drought, hurricanes, earthquakes, etc.

Polarization is GOOD, especially in politics. When you have completely uncompromising positions in government, then the impasse means nothing gets done. I like that (except when it comes to national defense). The less government does, the safer most people feel. I used to this think this would be a problem though if one side got a clear majority, but as we can see in the Tea Party protests (just like the VW protests in the 60s), clear majorities can be diffused...

If the US politicians actually did *nothing* it would be an improvement.

the facts are is that both parties have increased the deficit, raided social security, lied its way into starting a war, almost killed the US human space program, gave bankers a free ride and huge cash bailout, raised taxes, turned a blind eye to corporations exporting jobs, manufacturing capacity, and now high technology. And that is just a list off the top of my head.

The US gov't totally lost its credibility at home since Richard Nixon and despite all of the rhetoric has never regained it.

Harbinger, our country is messed up. Ross Perot, and now Ron Paul make some sense but will never get into a position to make a difference because too many special interests, corporations, and corrupt politicians stand to lose if the gov't were truly cleaned up.

It is a sad state of affairs. And I don't see it getting better unfortunately.

Bah, politics, I don't know much about them, other then that I don't wanna get into them, mostly because I don't care at this age where it does not effect me, but mebbe I will in a few years... Either way, US government is not harming me too much, seeing as how I don't live in the U.S.

Now then, about the weather... It's been pretty lousy in the fact that this year had no snow, which just doesn't make sense. I did, however, have a dream filled with snow, my alarm woke me up for school and I thought it was a snow day, went back to sleep... I was late that day.
Sleep would be a good idea, to bad I have better things to do.
