We had a similar topic on the old forums.

AutoHotkey:
If you like flexible hotkey combinations, autoreplace strings and a really powerful scripting language give this one a try.

What was it about? I forgot...
Anyone can do anything if they have nothing else to do

Most musicians are talented. I'm just determined.

Just post links to and short descriptions of great free / open source apps that you use, like Diamond did for AutoHotkey above (though the way it sits at the bottom of the post below a dotted line, it looks like his sig - so maybe you didn't notice it? :) )

Squirrel Havoc

Oh I see. Then I can join in! Does it have to be MPT/Audio related?

JAP Anonymous browsing proxy program, written in Java and available in english and german. Good for illegal stuff    (j/k of course). Servers are a little slow, so your speed will be like 1/2 your max, but if you are paranoid, it's a nice program.

No not at all.  Just anything that's useful, interesting and free.

Boy, I can flood this thread then. I will take it slow, but I know of quite a few.

----------------
Art of Illusion This is kinda well known, but for those who don't know it, it's it's an open source 3D modelling and rendering suite, using subdivision modeling, It's written in Java also, so it runs on almost any PC. It's slow in rendering, but the quality is sweet, and it has a super complex procedural texture/material scripting engine (you can make other scripts for it too).

Sorry Diamond, I'm trying to be sensitive to the visually impared here, but most of the stuff I know about are graphics programs :(

LOL that's ok.  I'm a minority.

True, but I'm an American, where the minorities matter :)

Soulseek - File sharing application
Primarily useful for music files which are hard to find.  Just put it in your "Wish List" and wait.  You'll probably get it eventually.  Although the community is somewhat clickish and users will sometimes ban you for ridiculous reasons.
http://www.slsknet.org/
SpamPal - Spam control utility
http://www.spampal.org/
Spell Checker for Edit Boxes - Spell checker that will work in any edit window
This one is really nice.  Although, it's a 16bit application so it's sometimes a bit flaky in XP.  Works fine in the 9X series though.  I wish someone would take the source for this one and make it 32bit compliant.  The author originally had plans for this, but for some reason changed his mind.  Lack of time I think.

On the games topic, this site's for retro-styled game making:

Being one of the admins I might be slightly biased, but still.

Hey LP, I know this topic is not specifically related to MPT, but I think that there's a lot of stuff in here that people could potentially find useful.  Would you be willing to make this one sticky so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle?
