He is mentioned as pusher of the Punk genre with the Sex Pistols.
But he was more. An excellent producer, and one of the first to use samples and sequencers.

he did some good work indeed.

he was involved in many great bands, and seems partly responsible for the breakup/demise of many of those acts as well.  apparently he was really into chiptune, he must have put his hands on a tracker at some point in his life.  rip

McLaren had nothing to do with the Art of Noise.
That was Trevor Horne.
