Past

What are your thoughts?
I want to reach out...
across that gulf of time.
Look through your eyes.

Learn what of me...
lies within you.

I feel myself
sad and anxious
whenever I think of you.
How can I say it?

My home is inside of you.
A dream.
In the youth of your past...

Artist's description:
This is dedicated to my grandfather on my father's side.

Mike Barry (keys) put excellent music to my words.

I hope to redo this with him when time permits since there are many many compromises in this recording.

The original recording consisted of Mike singing and playing (I *think* on his baby grand but it sounds too metallic in places as I listen to it now) and me playing bass. This was recorded on cassette sometime in the 80's at Mike's place via mic.

Then, when I got cakewalk proaudio in the late 90s, the cassette recording was transferred to my computer via a soundbaster 16 - 22 kHz because space was at a premium and radio quality isn't that bad really.

Once in cakewalk I sliced and diced the original recording tossing some stuff around and using it backwards here and there.

The vocals were too quiet - so I added my voice to boost them. Mike was not around and all I had was the stereo cassette pre-mixed sort of to speak.

I also added guitar and sliced and diced that too of course.

The kids are samples that represent his youth - playing in the school yard.

Contributors:
Mike Barry  big time

I know there are pops.... wait for the remake.

Inspiration:
My grandfather came from Lithuania to the states.

He volunteered for WWI not long after he came here.

He spent lots of time with me and frankly I loved him.

Through him I feel a connection with Lithuania that is lost in the past when he was a child.

When I wrote these lyrics most of my creative output was in words.

He had died a few years before these were written.

Very sensitive song, Clones. I like the bass playing.
