all guitar

seagull acoustic
fender mustang
roland gr20 as appropriate

I wish I had congas or some other soft percussion with this.

Sam_Zen

Well, you should have, because the speed of the beat of this is not very consistent, which is quite difficult anyhow if that slow.

yes... its my chicken and egg problem.

Since I can't write percussion too well this is problematic for me.
Thanks for the listen.

Sam_Zen

Maybe not necessary to add some percussion in the mix, but just some dummy metronome-like thing could be sufficient.

a click-track?

I could try that again - its funny I have real problems playing with a metronome but with drums I'm ok....

I tend to not be able to listen to myself playing and the metronome. that was a really big problem for me when I was studying classical guitar and piano.

psishock

Oh... anything but the metronome. :D
I can only imagine that thing 'till i'm arranging my melodies to the proper beat, but definitely not in the final mixing. This piece is just ok even without any percussion because it's slow enough, although i'm arranging while listening, a nice percussion beat to most songs that don't have one, so they sounds good ^^.

Thanks for the listen Psi. It was mostly a put together for my wife Debbie. She doesn't go for the classical/microtonal/ambient/free jazz/whatever pops in my head stuff :-)

Ok,

I revised the bass line and added some voice clips and changed some volumes, edited some note placements for timing.

Could I have an opinion on version 3?

Thanks!

Sam_Zen

Certainly a better arrangement, Clones.

Thanks for the listen and comment Sam.

It looks as though another version will materialize - I found a percussionist looking for collaborators on trax in space and he is trying to work with this.

psishock

Already sounds much nicer, and you're saying that there will be a nice percussion line? Waiting for the next version then. =)

Hi Psi,

Yep - and in fact I was working with his tracks last night.

Ok,

Here it is with percussion

Many thinks to Norm Harris for composing and performing the percussion.

psishock

yea, now we're talkin', the percussion gave this song the needed advantage.

2 things, that i would mention:
- 1:20, that big gong don't really fit in this peaceful song, something less dramatic could do better effect.
- it's mayb just me, but the percussion seems out of sync with music.

I'm pretty sure I got the congas in the right place.

norm is a bit of an experimentalist - he called this "implied 6/8 in 4/4"

Thanks for the listen - I'll listen some more with respect to your comments.

I think you know how one can listen to it so many times that almost -anything- sounds good... so let me re-visit it.
