Status of support for higher quality samples

I read in an older thread that support for higher bitrate (higher than 16 bit) in samples had been added to the todo-list. What is the status of this change?

Import of 24/32-bit PCM wav is fixed and import of 32 bit float wav has been added, but those are not yet in the latest beta build. This is 'support for higher bitrate' only in the sense that those can be imported - they are converted to 16 bit on import.
