(trance) EatMe - Break_Top (.xm original & .it compressed / 8 bit)

Hello!

I am nowerdays using Renoise, but here is a release that never made it from 2002 in .xm (original) and .it (compressed / 8 bit samples) format.

The .xm song was made in 2002 on a Pentium 166 Mhz with the use of a Yamaha SY-77 synthesizer for some big samples inside.

I have upload a small size version of your 8-bit track with cleanup and ADPCM compression.

For the love of god, please stop spreading modules with ADPCM-compressed samples. They sound horrible and are only supported by a few players as they are not an official part of the MOD/S3M/IT/XM specifications.

Sometimes I think I have trouble with my ears.
And I should sort the file chaos on my computer.

I am with you that ADPCM compression reduce the quality.
But I think that the compression here was low.

Why you upload an old sound tracker tune when it is not free to use?

Everyone has the right to spread their songs under whatever conditions they want, including conditions that do not allow derivative works. Please respect the authors' wishes and keep such experiments for yourself.

Do you know nothing about audio compression? Or archive compression?

You know, some people keep ununsed samples sample in their modules for historical purposes. Yes, it increases the filesize but it's not like it would make a big difference in this day and age. Also, your particular "compressed" version also lacks all the stereo samples from the original file (ModPlug's ADPCM compression cannot make use of stereo samples), so it's no wonder that it's smaller than the original version - because it lacks half of the sample data!

I'm not exactly sure what kind of logic you are trying to follow here, but thousands of modules lack author information in module texts. However, this particular module is clearly credited to EatMe.

Um, about 'archive compression' mentioned. I don't follow for what obscure reasons there's need to zip a 7z archive. Though, it's complete offtopic here to discuss intricate mathematical results on compression, so I'll leave the question rhetorical.
