Today, Plogue put its own new Chipsounds plugin. It's a shareware. The sound is really perfect !

Difficult to find differences between the sound of original machine and the sound of its plugin. Check it here :

I don't know what they have been smoking, but that SID doesn't sound very realsitic. Maybe because of all the effects they've put on top, but that's not a very good demo of a SID emulation then.

Completely agree with you, Jojo. That's kinda strange sounding demo for SID. BTW what in the heck are those combinedwaveforms?

jikoo

Who is talking about SID emulation ???  :D  It simulates many 8bit soundchip : 2A03, AY-3-8910, DMG-CPU, P8244, POKEY, SID, SN76489, TIA, UVI and the VIC-I.

In this demo, sound is a Gameboy sound.

And about SID emulation, "most waveforms are actually SAMPLES of the real thing for 100% accuracy, especially for the combined waveforms".

I am!  :D I've heard all the demos, and exactly that SID demo confused me.

The SID is the soundchip of the 8-bit era. Or well, it's simply one of the best soundchips ever.

Quoting the website doesn't help me much, I want examples that show that it really sounds like a real SID.

Since my roots basically lie in SID music, I have to agree with the rest here. This definitely doesn't sound like the real SID music. For once, the kind of drums used in the music is not really possible nor what made SID so popular. Also the bass sound is what was used rarely.

SID music is about using brute and heavy sounds. WaxHead can confirm me on this one as he has one of the largest collection of MP3's with actual SID music (recorded using the C64)

In fact, when I listen to this, I actually have the feeling they've used a SID emulation as reference.

I know that !  :D I love THE C64 sound too !

So, I didn't find a great demo about the SID emulation of Plogue Chipsounds. Just few examples here :

as i said, those few examples do not sound like a SID at all, it's simply a PWM waveform what you can hear there. Not that the other examples would be  very good examples of what those sound chips are capable of... I certainly would not advise to buy this.

Hey, SID-loving friends, can anybody shed the light on the term "combined waveforms"?

Saga Musix

I don't know what they mean, but I could imagine that it's simply, as the name says, combining several channels of SID output (so that you would build a single instrument from the three output voices).

It goes a step further. You can modulate the sound of one channel with another.
