Here is an idea that I just thought of. A save state option should be added to Modplug Tracker! What this should do is the following:

!. Save Modplug Tracker's each time that it is exited
@. Save the position (channel number, section of channel, pattern number...)
#. Restore Modplug Tracker's state each time it is opened
$. Save the saved state as an automatically updating file that can be transferred across computers (kind of like the songs' autosave)

I like the Christmas theme. That is neat how items turn red when they are hovered over (including text in the fields).

May I ask why you always add a poll to a topic? :P A poll doesn't add much value if you just like to express your idea's.
"Heh, maybe I should've joined the compo only because it would've meant I wouldn't have had to worry about a damn EQ or compressor for a change. " - Atlantis
"yes.. I think in this case it was wishful thinking: MPT is makng my life hard so it must be wrong" - Rewbs

No, however, it does allow me (as well as anyone else that includes polls in their posts) to see how many people are in favor or agains the posted ideas. Is that not true?

Sam_Zen

In favour of what. . You come with four suggestions in one topic.

Even if everyone would be in favor or against your idea, its really up to the programmers to decide if its possible and if its worth the waste of their time. Knowing anyone's opinion is great, and its certainly a good idea to post your opinion, but the poll won't change the programmers mind if something is just not easilly integrated, if its possible at all.

That is a good point, LPChip. The chances of the programmers' minds being swayed is very slim, however, I would imagine that it is not impossible. Also, it probably would take a little bit more than a poll to do that. As for Sam_Zen's post, the reason why there are four choses is simple, the "Yes" if for anyone in favor of the idea (the save state option). The "No' is for anyone against the idea, The "I am not sure." is for anyone who is not sure if they are in favor of the idea or not (therefore, not being able to necissarilly say "yes" or "no"). The "What is a save state?" is for people who may not have uses programs that save their states (such as emulators or Virtual PC).

No, a poll will not change a programmers mind at all.

Just asking the question, and let people reply with why they want it yes or no, is far more effective. It is also the way to get your idea worked out better so that the programmer can see what options it all have.

When you add a poll to your post, people just vote and don't comment. Unless you really need the stats, don't use a poll.

I referred with 'four' not to the number of poll-items, but on the 4 proposals you made, leading with ! - @ - # and $

As a programmer myself I have to say that this wierd person does have a point. A poll can sometimes influence the programmer. If 10-20 persons are interested in a feature programmers might take a second glance on a feature because there are many people in favor of it. If a programmer for some reason just thinks "this was a stupid idea" and a bit later notices that 10 people thinks he is wrong, the programmer might think "Is that really a stupid idea after all?!".

I'm both in favour of the ModPlug statesave suggestion and also against it because I know that such features can and will probably introduce nasty bugs every now and then (just look at the hibernation feature of windows).
So it's a great idea = the feature would be great
but the feature may be very difficult to implement propperly without bugs = this may suck more than anything that have ever sucked before.

But what do I really think?? it's a great idea

...hmmm... somehow I got the feeling that I sound rather wierd myself, well well...

Really Weird Person

Yep, and also odd, wodd, odd, weird, Waxhead. The name Waxhead is weird itself, so you do not have to worry too much about your posts sounding weird.
