Yjana has made me a member of her vband Tassel of Blue (it's no longer just her screen name). I find that we tend to bring different worlds together when we get together in the "studio". Up to this point, i wanted to keep my hands out of her work, so she'd feel like she was accomplishing something on her own, agreeing only to fix the levels, stereo imaging, and other audio engineering. After we made our song "Pushing Me," she asked me to lend my creativity to her music, not just be her engineer. Now i'm officially half of Tassel of Blue.

So if you like Electronic Dance Music, you should take a listen (or perhaps ANOTHER listen) at our projects. For the most part Tassel of Blue doesn't concentrate on being artistic or inventive, but we'd like the sound to be our own. Many of you here at ModPlug Central don't know (wouldn't have known) of the progression of Yjana's talents as a musician, esp. since i've gotten her to appreciate the classical masters. For myself, i've progressed a long way in mixing and other post work, so the engineering in our last two albums is much better than the first two. I'm now incorporating more audio FX as part of the post work as well (such as mono-ing or refiltering sections that serve as bridges).

Here is what Tassel of Blue has done so far:

Sonic Epiphany: Yjana's first foray into tracking with MPT, some her own music, but too much of it was educational in nature (from me to her as i taught her how to compose with ModPlug) and therefore was not indicative of either her or my talent in composition. Still, one or two really good songs here.
Artifacts: Yjana's project almost entirely, save for some keyboard melodies she asked me to cameo. Here she begins to venture out on her own musically, still exploratory but rather adventuresome. I noticed she seems to go towards the dark European sound, especially the industrial flavor. As she began to listen to other EDM composers more carefully, i found her picking up and incorporating techniques from some even here at the forums, namely Jojo and Xaphoid, which becomes more obvious in her next album.
Kissing Your Ears: The current release. Changes in her life are reflected in her music, but in my opinion, this style is as far as she can go by herself. She doesn't hang around other musicians (either in person or on the web), so she's not surrounded by helpful feedback to push her to channel her inspirations and musical sensibilities more clearly (and i've told her as much). I am her only sounding board, but dance music is not my primary skill or intention...
Between the Lines: The music is finished and the album is designed, but i have yet to finish the engineering (mixing, levels, compression, and stereo imaging). So even though it's done and we've shared advance copies to local friends, the album has not been released. I should be done in the next few months.
Ripple Effects: The album we're currently working on. Now that i'm a 50% contributor to the sound, you will notice a definite change in the style, which Yjana wanted, especially since i'm no longer her "teacher". She wanted to incorporate more of the sound we started out with in the early 90s (harder, more resolute and "contrasty", and in many ways simpler in design), sort of like a cross between Trance and Goth Rock. And she wanted to play more drum sessions with less sampling of her beats. We're hoping to be done by the end of this year, barring any major life changes. With interest from others, we might upload a sample of our new sound to give you a taste of things to come...

Here is the link for a sampler of some of the songs on her third album Kissing Your Ears (you need be a registered member of Trax in Space). The album was completed in mid 2010, and was only made available locally to friends; however, after some serious procrastination, i only recently finished all the post-engineering work, which is why it's now made available to not-so-local colleagues. We have come up with this idea to better control distribution of our music, which may actually turn out to be better than private hosting, and that is to send the album by request only. We control the archiving fully and the distribution partially.

This mix is only a spliced set of various songs on the album Kissing Your Ears. Here are the 6 songs from which they are derived:

TIME TITLE
0:00 Dancing
0:40 Where You'd Lead Me
1:10 Lie Sensor
1:55 Moonglitter
2:50 Perihelion
3:45 The Art of Reprisal

Listen to the music, and if you like this style (strictly dance or background music, nothing interesting or thought-provoking), e-mail Tassel of Blue at aeon_music@ymail.com with a request for her album, and, if you've established a reputation of trustworthiness, either she or i will begin sending you split archives of the album. Split because the album is over 100 MB (12 mp3s) and Yahoo can only send 25 MB at a time. Also, we're not on the internet every day, so even if we don't get back to you after a few days, be patient.

When you receive the album, please mind the license as depicted in the archive; she's stickier about this than i am with my own music. Of course, we're on the honor system here. So if her music is put somewhere where she didn't consent to, she'll feel betrayed, and i'll never be able to convince her to share with you guys again.

One other thing: just because you request her music doesn't mean she will just send it to you. Yjana has little ways of determining if you can be trusted with her "secrets," and if she's unsure, she won't do it. But at least she's the kind to tell you directly; she won't just ignore you. Just don't take it personally. She's the one with trust issues (even worse than mine). :D

And if you have a problem with someone you don't know questioning your trustworthiness, then ignore this post... :P
