Looking for a half decent (free!) bass guitar Vsti.

Hi there, I've just been having a few rehearsals with a band and I hit upon the idea of using Modplug to help with the arrangements.

Does anyone have any reccomendations for a bass guitar Vsti? A drum Vsti would be good also as most of the ones I've come across are for dance/electronic music. I'd need something a bit more rock sounding.

Cheers!

Depends on how realistic it should be (I mean, if it's just for rehearsals...) - The most simple thing would probably be to use the sfz VST and load a good soundfont (like SGM-180 or whatever) into it.

Ah sorry, I should have explained better. I just want it for practicing in my room and working out compositions. Then I can take it to rehearsals to show the others what I mean with my ideas.

I'll have a look at thie sfz VST you mentioned. I take it I have to download that and then get different soundfonts which are all played through that plug in?

Cheers for the help.

Yeah, you take the plugin, take a SF2 soundfont and load it into the plugin. Then you can send notes to the plugin.

sfz is also my choice of tool for this job. It'll also work for drums, and depending on the soundfont you get, the quality can be very good too.

And best of all, you can route the plugin to an amp to give it that extra boost and guitar feel.

My personal favorite is Raspier when our usual bassist isn't around.

I'd suggest kvraudio.com. They have a search page where you can filter which instruments you're looking for...
