So, what're your favourite pieces of music? And where can people download them (legally!)?

At the moment, I'm into classical music, so mine are

=> Fantasia on a theme, by Ralf Vaughn Williams
=> valse Triste, by Jean Sibelius
=> Theme from Schindler's List, by John Williams
=> Prayer, by Ernest Bloch

You can download them from the VSL (Vienna Symphonic Library) demo zone: http://vsl.co.at/en/67/245/255.vsl . They're all so pretty... :)

Difficult question. I don't have a specific favorite music style.
And sometimes for months I don't listen to music pieces anyway, because I deal with sounds already during my work,
and sometimes I got fed up with it for the rest of the time.

To be legal, I chose for some tubes :
Billy Cobham - Stratus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ae3l12PM2c
Joe Zawinul,Trilok Gurtu Orient Express Part1 http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=922LumI2ilo
BLØF - Een Manier Om Thuis Te Komen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YBZ6VqDDIk
Herbie Hancock - Rockit http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=S7dAxvj2mlU
Isao Tomita - Gardens in the rain by Debussy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Y8KyRKvFx8
King Crimson - In the court of the crimson king http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHkisNZH77Y

Dictator

When speaking of classical music, I recommend...
- Beethoven - 5th Symphony (especially 1st movement)
- Gustav Holst - The planets: Mars
- Edward Elgar - Pomp and Circumstance March 1
- Jean Sibelius - Finlandia

More on orchestral music...
- any Star Wars soundtrack (my favourites include Imperial March and Droid Invasion Theme)
- Apollo 13 soundtrack (mainly "All systems go for the launch" and "Re-entry and splashdown")

Also, some game music is excellent.
- Supreme Commander soundtrack
- Total Annihilation soundtrack (http://www.fileuniverse.com/?p=show&a=cat&id=54)
- Warcraft 2 soundtrack (some are on YouTube, don't remember where I got my redone version)
- Rome: Total War soundtrack
- Frank Klepacki (Red Alert, Universe at War etc. //www.frankklepacki.com)

My other passion is metal music and there's so many good bands and songs around that providing exhaustive list would take too much space here.

If you want to get some of these, you know what is the easiest way.

Waxhead

My favorite music comes mostly from the Commodore 64. Reason? well with "limited" hardware they was able to produce incredible music with feel unlike todays boring music with a stupid loop and some drums (read: hip hop/rap or loop music as I like to call it).

- Thomas Mogensen (Drax)
- Thomas E. Petersen (Laxity)
- Jens Christian Huus (JHC)
- Martin Galway (Last Ninja 2)

Well, I had to listen to the best .mod ever!  Very impressive.  I'm sometimes amazed at what people can manage with four channels and low samplerates and bitrates.

Thanks for the link, Jojo.

Saga Musix

i'm glad you enjoyed it :)
btw, you should really disable resampling for this module, it sounds so much better (and more original) without it.
