Do you specifically search for a library tool (i.e. something where you can search for song names, instrument texts, etc.) or just a regular audio player?

If you need a library tool, you could give my Mod Library tool a try: https://github.com/sagamusix/ModLibrary
It's still very unfinished and you will have to compile it yourself for Debian, but it should be easy if you have QtCreator installed (hopefully).
Alternatively, there is a pre-compiled Windows version that should run in Wine: https://sagagames.de/stuff/modlibrary2.7z

On Debian 9 and 10, VLC should use libopenmpt through our libmodplug emulation layer, so the playback quality will be good, but you won't have many options to configure module playback like you would have in a player that is dedicated to playing modules (such as XMPlay).
There are some other players and player plugins for Linux that you could try: https://wiki.openmpt.org/Libopenmpt#Players
