AutoHotkey:
If you like flexible hotkey combinations, autoreplace strings and a really powerful scripting language give this one a try.
http://www.autohotkey.com/
What was it about? I forgot...
Just post links to and short descriptions of great free / open source apps that you use, like Diamond did for AutoHotkey above (though the way it sits at the bottom of the post below a dotted line, it looks like his sig - so maybe you didn't notice it? :) )
Oh I see. Then I can join in! Does it have to be MPT/Audio related?
-----------------
JAP (http://anon.inf.tu-dresden.de/) Anonymous browsing proxy program, written in Java and available in english and german. Good for illegal stuff  (j/k of course). Servers are a little slow, so your speed will be like 1/2 your max, but if you are paranoid, it's a nice program.
Quote from: "Squirrel Havoc"Oh I see. Then I can join in! Does it have to be MPT/Audio related?
No not at all. Just anything that's useful, interesting and free.

Boy, I can flood this thread then. I will take it slow, but I know of quite a few.
----------------
Art of Illusion (http://www.artofillusion.org/) This is kinda well known, but for those who don't know it, it's it's an open source 3D modelling and rendering suite, using subdivision modeling, It's written in Java also, so it runs on almost any PC. It's slow in rendering, but the quality is sweet, and it has a super complex procedural texture/material scripting engine (you can make other scripts for it too).
Sorry Diamond, I'm trying to be sensitive to the visually impared here, but most of the stuff I know about are graphics programs :(

nLite - Deployment Tool for the bootable Unattended Windows installation
http://www.nliteos.com/
ZaraRadio - Radio automation software
Most of the page is in Spanish, but the program is in English. There's also an older version which supports Winamp DSP plugins. For some reason they got rid of this feature in the latest versions, but if anyone wants to try it let me know and I'll post a download link.

Heh, they actually updated! Too bad it's not in english yet, though (try */en for the old english version :P)
I'm quite surprised (sorry if I overlooked) to see the absence of XMPlay (http://www.louigiverona.com/webarchive/samzen/download/xmplay3305.zip) here so far. It's a versatile player for all kinds of module-formats, with a lot of info-data showing. Even patterns are showed.
It can also save as Wav, included the playback-settings, as MPP can.
Playback of the OGG-format. Here are the plugins to handle FLAC (http://www.louigiverona.com/webarchive/samzen/download/xmp-flac.zip) and MIDI (http://www.louigiverona.com/webarchive/samzen/download/xmp-midi.zip) too.

Ooh, heard of that, you can program glitch beats on it much easier as well, from what I've heard (although that one VST still takes the win for easiest to make glitch beat..)
Also:
GraphicsGale (http://www.humanbalance.net/gale/us/) - a very cool Japanese (read:) pixel art program. Does not have lots of filtering and macroscopic image editing abilities, but is absolutely great for pixel artists, especially ones for the handheld market (provided you can't afford ProMotion). Yes, it's also in English.
http://kdiff3.sourceforge.net/ - nice GUI diff util that allows to ignore C++ comments and compare whole directory structure
http://users.ugent.be/~bpuype/wget/ - most powerful downloader software I've seen (commandline only, GUI available here: http://www.cybershade.us/winwget/, you have to know commandline parameters anyway to use it)
http://www.cygwin.com/ - home of the grep, sed and bash shell for Windows (you should know that link already :!: ).

http://www.un4seen.com/ - XMPlay audio player which handles .MOD files in very high level (I mean shows comments inside MOD :) ) and handles everything that Winamp handles with plugins and also has it's own MIDI plugin that uses .SF2 files.

cdrtfe - Win32 frontend for cdrtools. Burns data CDs/DVDs, audio CDs, video CDs/DVDs, creates/writes ISO images and can also rip audio CDs to a few different formats.
I've been looking around for a powerful, free and accessible burning solution for quite some time. Right now I'm really liking this little program.
http://cdrtfe.sourceforge.net/cdrtfe/index_en.html
Mini Recorder - Audio recorder that runs completely hidden or from the system tray and can be stopped/started with assignable global hotkeys. The sound device for recording is selectable and it autogenerates file names based on the current date/time.
I don't know why this little gem isn't more popular.

it makes for a very powerful launching environment.
Programmer's Notepad - Nice Programmer's/general purpose editor with customizable keyboard shortcuts
http://www.pnotepad.org/
Some mentioned before, but I gathered four utils with the same 'dropper' dialog for WAV conversion to and from :
OGG (http://www.louigiverona.com/webarchive/samzen/download/oggdropxpd189.7z) - FLAC (http://www.louigiverona.com/webarchive/samzen/download/flacdrop120.7z) - MP3 (http://www.louigiverona.com/webarchive/samzen/download/lamedropxpd397.7z) - WavPack (http://www.louigiverona.com/webarchive/samzen/download/wavpackdrop130.7z)
Plus another, opensource, multi-format converter : WinLame (http://www.louigiverona.com/webarchive/samzen/download/winlame.7z) by Michael Fink.
WinLame input formats :
AIFF - AU - AVR - CAF - HTK - IFF - MAT4 - MAT5 - PAF - PVF - RAW
SD2 - SDS - SF - VOC - W64 - WAV - WAVEX - XI - MP3 - MP2 - MPG
OGG - FLAC - MOD - IT - S3M - XM - WMA - M3U - PLS - CUE
WinLame output formats :
MP3 - OGG - WAV - WMA
WinLame CD rip : only to WAV
Speaking of converters, I've looked at quite a few myself recently. Here are some of the more useful ones I've discovered.
Free Audio Extractor - Extract audio tracks from most popular video formats and save them to MP3, WAV and AC3
http://www.x-kit.com/audioextractor.htm
PowerEnc - CD ripper/converter which is reasonably portable and can convert between several popular audio formats

Efficient WMA MP3 Converter - Supports most of the conversion features of the previous two combined, but wasn't as speech friendly so not quite as useful for me.
http://www.wmamp3-converter.com/
MediaCoder - An almost universal audio/video transcoder
http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/
* The Lame Encoder Front End v 1.0. Very detailed modifications can be made. A ID3v2 tag editor.
Didn't made a profound test so far. But promising. By Jacek Pazera.
http://www.louigiverona.com/webarchive/samzen/download/LameFE.7z
A remarkable button in the Options tab : "Delete all registry keys created by program and exit".
I wish, more progams would have that option.
* The Free Uninstaller. Not only an alternative for the Programs Add/Remove function. There are more of that.
But, besides any changing, it can show very detailed information about the relations with the registry.
http://www.louigiverona.com/webarchive/samzen/download/free_uninstaller.7z
* Hex2Dec of Sysinternals by Mark Russinovich. I made two batchfiles to be placed in some dir of the system-path
(read the txt-file), to be able to type from any spot : 'd2h 2008' to get : "7D8", or vice versa with 'h2d..'.
http://www.louigiverona.com/webarchive/samzen/download/hex2dec.7z
This works with Win2K. I don't know about the behaviour with XP, let alone Vista.
* An M3U playlist maker with the same batch-technique
http://www.louigiverona.com/webarchive/samzen/download/make_m3u.7z
icoFX (http://icofx.xhost.ro/) is a free, yet powerful icon editor. I've seen many icon editors before. those which had the same great features were commercial apps (i liked IconCool, but it's very buggy) and those which are free often are just very basic. this icon editor is free and professional: multiformat icons, extracting icons, nice drawing tools and many more things are top-notch.
@Jojo: Have you also looked at the Gimp for icon editing?
i really can't stand gimp's interface and IMHO specialized editors for icons only often work better than those designed for other formats.
Notification:
In the course of time I placed a lot of links in all kinds of threads on this forum to files to be downloaded.
As I did with replacing all my MP3 files by the OGG format, I'm now busy to do the same with all my ZIP files.
These mainly concern software or information.
They will be upgraded to the 7-Zip format (.7z extension) because it's also open source.
It's hard to do for me to update all threads I posted on this forum, to correct those links in the page data.
So my advice for the moment: if some DL can't be found, try the new file-extension.
TC can handle this format, otherwise get the 7-Zip packer here (http://www.louigiverona.com/webarchive/samzen/download/7z457.exe) (860 KB)
VSTHost - Small VST host which supports loading/saving of FXP presets and FXB banks, VST chaining, MIDI input/output, MIDI player, wave player/recorder, ASIO and input from the PC keyboard.
http://www.hermannseib.com/english/vsthost.htm
This one is really worth checking out. It doesn't have a built-in sequencer, but for quickly previewing VST instruments and possibly for live sets it's excellent.
haha, i think most people here know about VSTHost, not only because ModPlug uses some portions of its source code :D
Quote from: "Jojo"haha, i think most people here know about VSTHost, not only because ModPlug uses some portions of its source code :D
I believe that the source code for one of the older versions was used as an example to implement MPT's VST support, but I'm not sure how much code was directly copied. Besides, that was a much older version and the program has improved significantly since then. Also, I suspect many of the newer users might not have been aware of the program.
Karen's Replicator - Backup/synchronizing utility

Probably the best freeware icon editor out there.
Just have tested it quite briefly, but I have a tip for a free wav editor :
http://www.wavosaur.com
It's small (500 Kb), it can handle VST's, ASIO, and multi-channel formats, with lots of tools and effects.
icon editor plus mini reshacker whee! iocofx is good call.
For my wave editor, I use this program (http://sourceforge.net/projects/modplug/).
ShortPopUp - Turn folders into pop-up menus

Msub - Powerful search and replace command line utility. Supports regular expressions.

Took me quite some time to find something like this. Similar to sed,
http://www.pement.org/sed/
but all of the Windows ports of sed which I've tried have displayed some buggy behavior. Mostly related to end of line formatting and in-place editing of files. I recommend the UnxUtils GNU sed v4.0.7 build since it at least does not have the in-place editing bug. Just remember to use the --text switch since by default this version works in binary mode.
PlainEdit - My latest favorite text editor.

This tool is pretty good at finding files on your computer fast:
Everything (http://voidtools.com/)
+ fast (indexes in seconds and searches instantly)
+ pretty small application
- search on file name only (which is why it's so fast)
If find the name of this topic a bit confusing, btw. I see that a lot software here is neither open source nor free software (which is not the same as freeware).
In the real world, outside of GNU, free software usually means freeware (free as in beer).
However, I propose a mod changes the topic title to "Recommendations of software yo don't have to pay to use" to avoid confusing Jojo ;-)
Well, the bad thing that it's the same word in English, you can differentiate between the two "types" of "free" software in German very well for example. But I think that you can find the term Freeware more often than Free Software actually.
That is a good point, Jojo. Free software, unless I am mistaken, would likely refer to software that comes with a free trial download. Freeware, however, is software that you do not have to purchase a license for and it costs you no money.
QuoteFree software, unless I am mistaken, would likely refer to software that comes with a free trial download.
Utterly wrong. This (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_software) is free software.
Another little tool by Nir Sofer : Volumouse (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/volumouse.html)
More efficient use of the mousewheel, for example by controlling the system volume.
I think we've probably all at some point learned the hard way the necessity to take backing up data a bit more seriously. I certainly have myself a couple of times so the following are some of the more useful utilities that I've discovered over the past couple of years for backing up or synchronizing files and folders.
cwrsync - Rsync for Windows (command line only)
http://www.itefix.no/i2/cwrsync
Unison File Synchronizer (GUI or command line)
http://www.cis.upenn.edu/~bcpierce/unison/
DirSync Pro (java based) (GUI with command line switches for automation)
http://directorysync.sourceforge.net/index.html
Directory Compare (GUI or command line)
http://tp.lc.ehu.es/jma/win32/dirco.html
FastCopy (GUI or command line)

Sync (java based) (command line only)
http://syncdir.sourceforge.net/
Synchronizer (GUI with command line switches for automation)
http://neofreeware.free.fr/freeware/synchronizer/synchronizer_us.htm
The official release has a bug which causes an access violation when using the /AUTO switch in combination with /SILENT. The beta version which fixes this problem can be downloaded here:
With installer
http://neofreeware.free.fr/download/synchronizer_setup_beta.zip
Without installer

Finally, not related to file synchronization, but also useful:
PeerBlock

Dugged out of my archive - Two DOS applications :
Ramtracker (http://www.louigiverona.com/webarchive/samzen/download/ramtracker.7z) and a command-line WAV to XI (http://www.louigiverona.com/webarchive/samzen/download/wav2xi.7z) converter.
Zip 3.0 - Command line based ZIP utility
Home page:
http://www.info-zip.org/
Win32 binary:
ftp://ftp.info-zip.org/pub/infozip/win32/zip300xn.zip
What makes this one different is the -FS switch which allows you to synchronize a folder with a ZIP file. Including deleting of files from the archive which no longer exist in the source folder. I've been looking for a compression utility that could do this for quite some time now so I thought I would share.

Jeremy Evers has released
xi2bmk2, a tool for converting .xi instruments to samples for Beatmaker 2.
QuoteHere's a little tool that I cooked up to share with old-school fast tracker 2 heads that play with beatmaker 2.
xi2bmk2 will rip through your dusty old .xi instrument collection, and convert it to a shiny new .bmk2 and .wav collection.
XI2BMK2 FEATURES
*xi2bmk2 will operate recursively on an input directory that you specify. The first folders that it encounters will become the category names in the .bmk2 file.
*You can use the .wavs for whatever you like, but the tuning information, key maps, and loop points are all stored in the .bmk2 xml.
*Since fast tracker's envelopes were so radical, they are not converted to the standard ADSR that beatmaker 2 uses.
*Stereo pair instruments (identified by two files, *L.xi and *R.xi, in the same folder, with matching keymaps and samples) will be magically welded back together into a single stereo instrument.
*xi2bmk2 is available to download for Windows PC at no cost.

One piece of freeware that I am fond of is Stomper by Zap. It's an older drum synth generator that had a lot of potential. Unfortunately it's been collecting dust for years and is not without it's bugs. I'm looking for something a little more up to date, but have yet to find anything quite as useful. It's mostly for making analog drum sounds; although it can also make some super crazy noises (usually before crashing).
http://www.lysator.liu.se/~zap/stomper/whatisit.html
Anyone know of something similar out there?
try this one ??
OrangatorQuoteOrangator is a program that lets you create sounds without sampling. It is useful for people who want to make their own samples, but don't have an analogue synthesizer or a professional sampler. With Orangator you can make all types of techno 303-like sounds, synth-strings, sweeps, 808-like drums and even some acoustic-like bells and organs. Orangator features some cool effects like resonance, phaser and delay. Reverb is available only in non-real-time mode.
Features:
*10 independend oscillators.
*Amplitude, frequency, shape modulation.
*Waveforms : sin, |sin|, even sin, square, triangle, saw, double saw noise, light noise, custom, 2 samples.
*16-band harmonics generator with detune.
*Ring modulation, Sync, linear FM synthesis.
*Resonance, high/low-pass cutoff, 2 average filters.
*32-bit Reverb, flanger & chorus with linear interpolation, feedback with cycle feature.
*Realtime effects: feedback & flanger.
*Chord generator.
*Sequencer with 32 notes, portamento, sustain.
*3 envelope generators, 2 lfo's, noise generator, custom graphic envelope.
*Pre/Post overdrive, wrap overdrive.
*Automatic fat sound generator.
*Realtime MIDI input.
*MIDI ADSR envelope.
*Perfect MIDI timing independing on sound card accuracy.

I noticed Orangator shortly after posting. It definitely looks like it will do the trick. That's an awesome set of links too! They even have an older copy of Stomper listed. lol
I'll post some more generators that I use when I get home. I have a few that aren't listed on Sonic Spot.
One of my favorites is SFXR. It generates lots of very 8-bit style sound effects. There are builds for Windows & Linux and also ports for Mac and Andriod (Android version cannot export WAV)
http://www.drpetter.se/project_sfxr.html
I've also used tools from Victor Khashchanskiy, most of which tend to work well in conjuction with each other. All are linked here http://victorx.eu/BitmapPlayer.htm
Bitmaps & Waves - Image to sound with lots of options
Colors & Tones - Image to sound with more of a melodic touch
Draw the Sound - Exactly as it says
Enrhythmizer - Rhythmic enveloping
MoveIt! - Adds doppler effect
SoundMorpher - Signal modulator
SoundWarp - Allows you to warp an image before converting to sound
I remember using Orangator a long time ago. Interesting program. It has it's quirks and is tedious, but well worth the time spent.

''In general, its an allright MIDI sequencer. Can use VST plugins, but im unsure how that works since i haven't tried that out.Nice if searching for an free MIDI sequencer, since most aren't for free.''
I have really been digging this app for the past year or so. It is primarily an android app (which is not free), but they developer also released a native windows version that is completely free.
It really reminds me of Rebirth with a lot more features. I use it to lay down beats while I'm commuting on the metro every day :D

In case the link is outdated by a new version, the developer usually posts the latest windows version in the front page.
Pencil
http://www.pencil-animation.org/index.php?id=Download
Found this piece of gold when i was searching for an decent 2D animation program.
For 2D animations, this program is definetly a good choise. Only thing i wish is an option for Pixel precise editing (zooming in an area, without it altering the resolution so the points can be worked with to get an great image).
My favorites Open Source music applications:;D
- OpenMPT (http://openmpt.org) : The Best Tracker. The first tracker that I use when jumping to Module Music creation.
- Mo3 Encoder (http://un4seen.com/mo3.html): GUI application for converting module to lossy format Mo3.
- spc2it (http://github.com/uyjulian/spc2it) : Simple command-line program for converting SNES music format to Impulse Tracker.
- BeRo Tracker (http://www.berotracker.de/) : Tracker which has a nice MIDI to Module exporter
It seems here wasn't a link to fantastic software HourGlass (https://xenakios.wordpress.com/downloads) by Xenakios. It's a granular synthesis studio: you open various samples, set tens of options and envelopes and play it or export to a file, or play with the app live and export a live recording! It can make great sounds if used wisely—I used it unwisely, and still got some! :D
Runs on Windows and OS-X (maybe Linux with Wine too?). It's stand-alone—but surely you can generate many long samples and use it in favorite sampler plugin or so.
Ardour 4.0 released for
Linux and
Mac OS X (and
Windows beta)
QuoteThe Ardour project has announced the release of Ardour 4.0. This release brings many technical improvements, as well as new features and over a thousand bug fixes. The biggest changes in this release:
- Better cross platform support. Ardour now runs on GNU/Linux, OS X and for the first time, Windows.
- JACK is no longer required, making it easier than ever for new users to get Ardour up and running (though JACK is still usable with Ardour).
- The user interface has seen a thorough overhaul, leading to a more modern and polished experience.
The Free/Demo version is gratis. It is fully-featured except that after 10min it will periodically go silent.

MusineKit (http://nay-seven.com/beta/MusineKit%20Tweeter%20small%20600.png)
QuoteMusineKit is a software package dedicated to the practice of music and sound art. MusineKit is a tool resolutely turned towards the new digital practices.
The software grip is very fast. It can be controlled or interact with most industry interfaces (MIDI interfaces, Leap Motion, joysticks, tablet, Zil, etc.).
MisineKit is definitly a modern tool, in line with our digital practices and those of users.
This software allows anyone to create music, playing with sounds, to understand the world of sound around us and so to access the music through new technologies.
MusineKit is the result of the meeting between Sensomusic and la Muse en Circuit (national music creation center). La Muse en Circuit has extensive expertise in digital audio creation and creative music transmission practices.
Its educational work has always relied on consumer technologies and tools for live performances.
The Sensomusic company has been developing the "Usine" software for twenty years with efficiency and reliability in mind. This offers the professional user an efficient tool for the practice of music on stage or interactive installations.
http://www.sensomusic.org/musinekit/?lang=en
I'm not sure if this sounds as software, but Google developed a new general-purpose compression format to replace DEFLATE, and they are actually releasing it Open-Source according to some sources.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brotli (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brotli)
Combined with things like FLAC and Opus, and with solid packaging of multiple modules into one block, it might be possible to create a successor to the MO3 encoder, or to host your own module archive (exclusively using lossless samples) should a certain site go down again.
What do you guys thinK?
Brotli is useless for modules. It is specifically targeted towards HTML/JavaScript compression and won't perform much better than zlib/deflate on binary data like modules. There are much better zlib replacements which Rich Geldreich discusses on his blog (http://richg42.blogspot.com/2016/01/zlib-in-serious-danger-of-becoming.html). In particular, BitKnit would most likely perform better than Brotli, and if you want to trade speed for size, there's of course always LZMA and its variants. I don't really think it would be worth the speed dent to use LZMA for compressing module data though, since this is by far the smallest portion of a module anyway.
There is currently simply no reason to replace a proven-to-work library (which is needed by OpenMPT anyway for existing formats) with a new library for a minimal increase in speed or size.
Oh. Well, that's a shame :/
101st reply! Lol, me.

<monsterovich> This program allows to turn your smartphone/tablet into an OpenMPT keyboard
http://s32.postimg.org/mzu5cexhh/20160512_000009.jpg
Cool stuff ;)
@monsterovich It seems you've added a MIDI port with some magic there. Do I need to use some other software to do it, and how? Your app deserves more attention from the community (and more documentation as well ;)) I've uncommented the lines in launchpadd.ini and replaced the setting with miditest, but at the time I have default Windows GM synth deactivated, so I couldn't test if the server receives anything, but I believe so, and anyway it's cool.
P. S. Oh, I've been wrong about the docs, now I found the wiki. Will read.
P. P. S. Now at least I've configured client & server to play sounds at their own without MIDI. :) Cool indeed, but unfortunately latency is too high. Is it possibly my Wi-Fi?
P.³ S. Yay, just some loopMIDI and it works like a charm! Totally inaudible latency when receiving in Tracktion! It seems I'm going to have to learn some MIDI message codes... :D
I realise it's off topic here, but just can't add one more postscript:
P.⁴ S. As I deduce, there's currently no way to change preset on client startup. It's a bit frustrating that changing preset needs editing the setting file manually. Is startup selection an option for newer versions?
Quote from: arseniiv on August 12, 2017, 22:31:49
Is it possibly my Wi-Fi?
There is always a possibility. To decrease the latency I even tried to connect my smartphone to PC directly through the wi-fi-spot and had a good success (use this scheme: laptop - host, smartphone - client, otherwise you will experience major lags due to bad hardware on your smartphone). There is another way - just use the lan cable for your PC, it always works without issues.
Thanks. However, when selecting pure MIDI, latency is perfectly small, and it's just what I need. :)

QuoteTenacity
We have not released the first version of Tenacity yet, as it is still in the early stages of development.
Nevertheless, as a result of popular demand by the community, we decided to provide "nightly" downloads for Windows, macOS and Ubuntu Linux. These downloads are based on the latest version of Tenacity's code, and are not representative of our final product. Some features may be added, removed, or changed.

I found an interesting looking open source midi tracker called Synergy Midi Tracker, it is available for free at http://miditracker.org/ (http://miditracker.org/)
I have found and app that will allow people to run those old 16 bit windows apps on 64 bit Windows, it is called otvdm/winevdm it is available at http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/otvdm.html (http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/otvdm.html), https://github.com/otya128/winevdm/releases (https://github.com/otya128/winevdm/releases)
I have found a fork of Timidity++ called Timidity++ 41, it is an experimental build of Timidity++ and it has the ability to use sfz's and dls files as well as sf2's and gus pats and it is available in 64 bits for windows 10 x64 and 32 bits for older versions of windows, it also has the ability to emulate many different midi modules including the MT32, they have also ported the twsyng system synth to 64 bit for windows 10 and it is included.
It is available at https://osdn.net/projects/timidity41/ (https://osdn.net/projects/timidity41/), the latest version is available at https://mirrors.gigenet.com/OSDN//timidity41/75958/ (https://mirrors.gigenet.com/OSDN//timidity41/75958/) and all releases can be found at https://mirrors.gigenet.com/OSDN//timidity41/ (https://mirrors.gigenet.com/OSDN//timidity41/). It sounds quieter and less crisp then the original Timidity++ and that is with the same amplification settings, I'm not sure why.
If you find you don't like it, you can download the original edition of Timidity++ at https://sourceforge.net/projects/timidity/ (https://sourceforge.net/projects/timidity/)

I have found an interesting piece of software for do stereo source separation, for instance you can extract vocals or the drum beat from an audio recording, you can also use this software to extract all musical instruments and vocals from an old mono music recording from the 30's, 40's and 50's and remix all the parts into a now Stereo version, the software is called ISSE (ISSE : An Interactive Source Separation Editor) and it is available for download at http://isse.sourceforge.net/ (http://isse.sourceforge.net/) and https://sourceforge.net/projects/isse/ (https://sourceforge.net/projects/isse/) and you can read more in depth info on it at https://ccrma.stanford.edu/~njb/research/ISSE-I.pdf (https://ccrma.stanford.edu/~njb/research/ISSE-I.pdf), it was written and produced by N. J. Bryan, G. J. Mysore, G. Wang. The website of Nicholas J. Bryan Senior Research Scientist Audio Research Group, Adobe Research San Francisco, CA, is available at https://ccrma.stanford.edu/~njb/ (https://ccrma.stanford.edu/~njb/), here is a YouTube video that explains it https://youtu.be/Rd3prIkO5bg (https://youtu.be/Rd3prIkO5bg)
Here is a good piece of free software called Resource Hacker http://angusj.com/resourcehacker/ (http://angusj.com/resourcehacker/), it is for editing (decompiling and compiling) software resources such as dll's, exe's, etc. With this software you can change the icons, splash screen and about screen graphics of OpenMPT to your own personal tastes, for instance maybe you prefer the old ModPlug/OpenModPlug icons and graphics or you have custom versions that you want to use, with this software you can make such modifications. You can also use it to do the same for other software as well. It is perfect for people who don't know how to modify and compile source code, but want to change graphical elements of a piece of software.
Note: This software is freeware but not open-source.
I have also found another program that is open source that looks like it does the same thing it is called "XN Resource Editor" https://stefansundin.github.io/xn_resource_editor/ (https://stefansundin.github.io/xn_resource_editor/)

Cardinal Modular Synth
Cardinal is a free and open-source virtual modular synthesizer plugin, available as CLAP, LV2, VST2 and VST3 audio plugin for FreeBSD, Linux, macOS and Windows.
Plus AU and JACK or Native audio standalone for some systems.
It is based on the popular VCV Rack but with a focus on being a fully self-contained plugin version.
It contains over 1000 open-source modules

An open-source file compression program I wrote is called BWTC32Key available here (http://b3k.sourceforge.io), and its files have a .B3K extension.
Also, an open-source music program I recommend is JummBox. One of many reasons why I like it is it having chiptune versions of the GM patches. Of course, I did a FOSS sf2 of it (here (http://stgiga.itch.io/jummboxsoundfont) or here (http://musical-artifacts.com/artifacts/2722)) (It's under CC-BY-SA4, which is GPL3-compatible. Said SF2 actually pairs great with OpenMPT.
Also open-source VST plugins in my opinion are something I find to be more likeable than black box VSTs for which no code is available, so if an architecture or OS change happens, you can't use those plugins. With an open-source VST, you can recompile them if something changes.
I know VLC can play tracker music and its somewhat the player I go to. Its not much but it does work, there's also classic media player hang on

But you will have to use the codec pack in klite to get a modern updated one

Thats freeware not open source / free(libre) software. But after using it, to check out the functions at least its not photoshop
This thread is not just about free software as in "libre software" but freeware in general. There's nothing wrong with posting things that aren't libre.
I had already stated in reply that it was 'free' but not 'open'. Open meaning open-source software which would roughly translate to the 'libre software' definition...
Looking back through I see a billion posts of 'FREE' but not 'LIBRE' soft. So the pointless post by Allenwrench was what...He just landed on this thread & had not seen other postings?
Seems like there should be a pin about this to prevent such drivel. As this leads to a member being indirectly subject to the 'Do not harass, insult or provoke other users' rule as I was a receptor of all 3 & this could be used as such a tactic of a member that 'dislikes' another but wants to not go too far in the harassment department as to be banned...
Chasys Draw is brilliant and not one I've come across before, so thanks for pointing that one out. Well worth having piece of software.

Hello everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to apologize for something I said in my recent forum post. Upon further reflection, I realize that my words came across as insensitive and disrespectful, and I deeply regret any hurt or offense I may have caused.
I understand that my behavior was not acceptable, and I take full responsibility for it. Moving forward, I will make a conscious effort to be more thoughtful and considerate in my communication with others. Please know that I value this community and everyone in it, and I am committed to learning and growing from my mistakes.
Once again, I apologize for my words, and I hope that you can forgive me.
Thank you for taking the time to read this message.
Sincerely,
allenwrench"

I just released my modded build of GNU Unifont called UnifontEX. (It's GPL2+OFLv1.1)
UnifontEX (http://stgiga.github.io/UnifontEX)
2024 Update:
In December 2023 on a backup computer (long story, my data is safe), I released an improvement to UnifontEX that fixes bugs and adds features. (A Sample Text field, the DFONT version now has vectors too, the WOFF1 version is now smaller thanks to DEFLATE improvements, and the JSTF table was added, which in the process fixes Winamp and JPEXS SWF Decompiler not allowing the font to be selected due to missing some tables, and on that note, some of the tables in original Unifont came back when I added the JSTF table. It's the only safe addition. Believe me, I've tried.) Basically, this update is an improvement to the compatibility goal of the project, in the process being a feature upgrade. Also the Sample Text is "One font to rule them all!" (A LOTR reference and a reference to the high compatibility, down to character count.) Hopefully you enjoy this update. It took a month to release because computer troubles.
Some nice free software I would like to recommend is VSC, a good code editing software, and Blender, for 3D modeling. Enjoy! ;D
