This is a tune I recorded for the Linux Audio Conference 2010. Performed live with free software only, on GNU/Linux.

Just for those that are curious what software was used exactly, I used Kluppe, Rakarrack, Ladish for session handling and Ardour for recording. KORG nanoKontrol as a midi controller.

This is beautiful. I listen to it in the background while I work.

Could you elaborate on how you made it? Did you just improvise it and record direct to disk?

you certainly are the master at this kind of music.

did the show go over well?

Thanks for kind words, guys.

Yes, it was an improvised recording. I used a loop player to play pads I made beforehand and then I routed various loops through effect racks and changed them in real time.

The tune was recorded from my home and then I sent it to organizers and they put it into an "installation". Unfortunately, as far as I was told, not a lot of people really paid attention. Initially, I planned to play it live, but could not go due to getting visa too late, so I guess it was boring for people to just sit and listen to a recording.

To get an impression of how I usually do such stuff, you can look at a video here:

This is just playing around with a vocoder. To record "Inside an Echo Chamber", I used two Rakarracks, 4 loop slots in Kluppe and all of it was routed into 4 tracks of Ardour, each of which had different delay settings, most with unusually high feedback set, which is an effect on which the whole tune is based - high feedback echo, thus the name.
