Title: Tracker music
Post by: Soundman on April 24, 2020, 19:53:49
Why is tracker music always so demented, dark and depressing? Why don't people make uplifting music with music trackers? And what is with the satanic kids enterprise link in the link section of Saga Musix personal website https://sagamusix.de/en/links/? That doesn't exactly motivate me to use OpenMPT, because I'm not satanic and I don't want anything to do with satanism. Why can't people just make happy music without this evil stuff? Perhaps people need love, hope and light in their lives.

You should give the music from those Satanic Kids Enterprises people a try. It's actually very upbeat and uplifting and not depressing at all.

Why is it called Satanic Kids Enterprise?

I'm not really sure how to explain this to you, but most music groups in this world don't choose names that describe what they are. My friends in SKE are neither kids or satanic, nor are they an enterprise. You know, just like the members of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-i1XZc8ZwA) are neither kings nor wizards (or lizards). Is it really that hard to understand?

It's just a group name, it doesn't have to reflect on how they are and what they stand for in real life. Just like band names!
Also there is a lot of uplifting positive tracker music out there, probably even more so than "dark depressing" music. Melancholy, depression etc are all part of a natural life at some point, so why should this not be expressed through music?

I kind thought they were using they name that way, because I looked at the sight and it doesn't really look satanic at all, perhaps just a little subcultural. I have been into amiga mods since the early 90's, and yes there is some good music out there, it is just hard to find, because there is also a lot of stuff that is very dark and depressing. As a person who struggles with depression, I make a point to stay away from dark depressing music.

Why is dark and depressing music "bad" music? Without bad, there is no good. Without sadness/depression, there is no happiness. These are all pretty much neutral things, and it's not like listening to depressing music will make you chronically depressed, or listening to dark music will make you evil.
EDIT: I didn't see the last part of your post before I replied. Yes, if you're actually struggling with depression, then depressing/dark music might not make you any happier.

When I think "tracker music" my mind goes to these kinds of songs, the kind that makes you want to get up and jam, not feel depressed. What gave you that impression?

I just mean that some tracker songs have dark ominous depressing sounding synth sounds. I just find that some synth sounds have a dark negative sound. But yes there are some that make you want to dance.

What I find also funny is that tracker music need to sound like a old tracker type of song. No, you can make all types of modern music with.
