Title: Donation question
Post by: Geminga on March 31, 2006, 17:45:03
Hi
Been a long-time lurker at ModPlug. Got a some stashed away for "the good cause". How can I donate? Where do I send the money orders? How much is needed and for what? Tell me, I really want to help.

PS- Kudos on the homemade site! I really want to help get *all* the song download links to work. Still remembering alpha64...

Well this is an interesting question. Even though the poster might want to have the answer, if it is to become existing, to the given email address, maybe some information could be provided here as well?

To be honest, I've not responded at all yet.

The reason for this is as follows:

I haven't found an answer yet.

On the one side, I'm thrilled about the fact that people appreciate this and are even willing to donate money. On the other side, I've calculated the costs for running a site etc. to be able to do it without needing any financial support.

Putting the need aside, its obvious that this is a gift, rather than financial support. I appreciate this ofcource.

I think I can supply my paypal account so you can donate if you still wish, but I still give you the choice to make the decision to donate. I don't maintain the site for the money you know ;)

EDIT: Okay, did some investigation, and came with the following...

Anyone not wanting to donate to LPChip's private leisure fund can check out OpenMPT's donation page at SourceForge.net (http://sourceforge.net/project/project_donations.php?group_id=100385).

Geminga, just to confirm, you want to support the website development right? (i.e. not the tracker development)

Any donations to support the website is up to LP to manage. Any money intended for the developers of the tracker should go to the link provided by speed focus... but I'd gladly accept some coffee and... tobacco?! BSV, I would have expected something more interesting from you... :D

I'd say two completely different girls. :)

Your ex is probably the one who feels the need to camouflage herself.
Both are very pretty by the way, well done.

Post by: Geminga on April 06, 2006, 13:28:45
Hi, Thanks for the link. I checked it out. Seems I'd hafta get a credit card:(

A snail-mail addy would be better. I can send American money order or cash in any currency desired. As a last resort I'd find a CC to borrow.

Why? 'Cause coding takes time. Server storage costs money... and this site is broken. I'm disabled and music is a really big part of my life. Once a month I look at my check and think... maybe I could help.:)

Its not adviced to use snail mail or so... if you can find a CC and are still willing, then thats great. Otherwise, I don't mind not getting any.

Yeah, I scewed the pooch on that, no doubt.

I felt weird about accepting flat-out donations, so I was always trying to come up with some other ways that visitors could support the site.  The banner ads helped, since no $$ had to come from the visitors, it comes from the advertisers.  The ads don't amount to much, especially since I split the money with Olivier (even though he didn't want me to, I thought it was the right thing to do).

I then came up with the idea of the MODPlug T-Shirts, which I thought was cool since the buyer could support the site and get something in return, but interest in the shirts was low, and many people who wanted the shirts lived outside of the US, and therefore would have to pay twice the amount of the shirt just on the shipping.  That, and I had to spend a lot of time in the Post Office filling out customs forms, so it didn't work out, although I do have a bunch of shirts to wear now. ;)

The best support has come from people like LPChip and Rewbs and others who donate their time to make the site and the software better.  When the new site launches, visitors can support it by adding their music and by supporting the sponsors - I think that's the best way to go.
