Due to a crash, the modplug download server is off-line. The only bad thing is, that the maintenance guy is off for a holiday break.
Pity! Just finished a new song. I'll wait with the posting until the server is back online again....
OK. so that explains that....
Alternatives?
Wow, that's some long holiday break, I envy that guy!
Quote from: "Harbinger"OK. so that explains that....

yes.
email it to me and I'll put it into
http://clones.soonlabel.com/public
Any news? I'd like to post a pair of lousy opuses after a break, but there are still some problems with the damned thing. That guy has quite a lengthy holiday.
Quote from: "Nahkranoth"I'd like to post a pair of lousy opuses after a break...
I "moved" to www.box.net. So far it works fine and the "lite"-account is free. You'll get some basic statistics of how often your files are being accessed and they even send a mail if somebody is accessing your files...
Nahkranoth
send me a PM if you want me to host your tunes in a folder called Nahkranoth at http://clones.soonlabel.com/public/
I will give you my email address so you can email them to me.
Chris
I was going to stop on box.net, but after seeing clones' answer I just can't resist :-) Thanks guys! Gimme a day to think of it.
Gawd, can't even send a PM, got some error msg.
It has been received actually *shrug*
What is the status and expectations of the upload/download site? What's going on? Are we trying to get it back?
Quote from: "Harbinger"What is the status and expectations of the upload/download site? What's going on? Are we trying to get it back?
I'll send a mail out to MisterX to ask for the status.
The machine that was hosting the download server is toast. While I do have all of the songs that were posted to it, what I don't have is:
A) A free web server with free unlimited bandwidth (That's what just got toasted)
B) Time to re-upload, re-install, etc.
If LP or someone can arrange for a web host that has the bandwidth needed to host the download system, I can FTP the files there.

I can host the files. No problem. Want me to create you an FTP account MisterX?
Thanks, LP, an alternative is being worked out right now. This community is awesome!
ok,
I'm working on a solution for uploading music for presentation here at the modplug forum. I think I know what I want to do but I have a very full schedule today.
In the meantime you can access all of the older uploads at:
http://modplug.soonlabel.com/music
I can say that the above link to your music will be more or less permanent.
Right now download.modplug.com points to the above URL - but that probably will change.
I'd like to thank MrX for giving me this opportunity to give back to the tracker community.
ok,
this is how you will b able to post music to modplug in the future via www.notonlymusic.com
You open a topic (or reply to a topic) and upload your file.
Such as this post
http://notonlymusic.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=162&start=0
On the bottom of the post will be your attachment. Right click and "copy link location" - this can be posted here at Modplug.
http://notonlymusic.com/board/download/file.php?id=85
OR
you can use tinyurl which will allow posting to some other sites.
http://tinyurl.com/ydtxtxv
Uploaders will have to register at www.notonlymusic.com "in the clear"
because we have to be able to tell you from a spammer. If need be PM me here at modplug or at www.notonlymusic.com
I apologize if you tried to play this file and it was a problem.
I think the picture I embedded was much to large (on 2nd thought)
I'd like to add that using the forum at not only music is an expedient for me. It is not to promote www.notonlymusic.com - though obviously everyone knows that will be a result. If that is the objection I'll just put up another forum at download.modplug.com.
With a forum I don't have to have an upload system coded and with many eyes watching the vetting of songs will be easier.
Also - I had suggested allowing direct uploads to this forum in the past. I still think it is a workable idea just on pure mechanics - but I don't know what the server package here allows.
Lastly, I am just trying to help. I am totally astounded / surprised / disappointed on the silence here on this subject at modplug.
Don't misunderstand. There are many great uploading sites for free, I'm using skydrive from MS.
But I think the reason not so many is using notonlymusic.com is because is not featured any place here on this site. MisterX hasn't done anything on modplug.com in years, same with forum which has stayed the same for years. I hope when openmpt.com will be open and when the community is moving we can have an official uploading place, easy to find, easy to know about. And then we can more easily promote the goodwill of this community.
Btw don't think anybody is questioning your intentions.
Pardon my confusion.
A few days ago I offered this solution so I'm not surprised it isn't featured.
I offered a solution for the growing number of posts asking about modplug uploads. I pm'd MrX whom I've know since 97 or so and offered to help him and this community out.
If everyone here is wanting to wait for openmpt is put up its no problem for me. But silence on the subject is kind of weird.
as I said I'm just trying help out. Hosting this music and new uploads is not free to me in time, money, or resources.
QuoteI'd like to add that using the forum at not only music is an expedient for me. It is not to promote www.notonlymusic.com - though obviously everyone knows that will be a result.
It's a pity that you even have to mention this. As if all people do in this world is promote themselves.
Quote from: "uncloned"Lastly, I am just trying to help. I am totally astounded / surprised / disappointed on the silence here on this subject at modplug.
I think it's great that you're offering the help to the community! But I also think most of the regulars that do share their music online already have places where they put their stuff already sorted out. I may be wrong, but historically it has seemed to me that the people who used to use the upload services of modplug.com (at least way back when I was an NRE) and the people who frequently partake in the forums are to a large extent two different crowds.
Is it possible to upload other things like images and pdf files to noonlymusic?
And thanks, uncloned, for providing a public outlet for the modplug community...it just goes to show you, you don't know what you got till it's gone.
So now let's send a message to MisterX: don't play with the computer in the bathtub!!
Hi Harbinger,
You are welcome, and the short answer is yes.
I'm not 100% sure on pdf files but I can make it so.
Chris

That is understood g.
I'm offering help to those who need it.
Given the choice between my personal server or a public one I would also chose my personal server - or whatever favorite solution I might be used to.

Quote from: "Harbinger"So now let's send a message to MisterX: don't play with the computer in the bathtub!!
LOL! Considering that the server was 1500 miles away, that is a rather large tub! ;)
I checked the oldfiles database at :
http://modplug.soonlabel.com/music
because I uploaded some tracks to the ModPLug Download Center in the past.
I couldn't find them back.
And this URL gives a 404 :
http://modplug.soonlabel.com/music/1000/
thank you Sam, I have that fixed.
you might have to empty your cache to see it
i'd add, after checking some of the latest tracks posted here, that indeed many free hosting services are out there, but only a (very) few offer online streaming and NO poop-ups..
maybe it'd be a good thing to cross-check those free providers and see which one(s) offer most free services..
Good suggestion. We should make a list of URLs with the easiest music upload facilities without popups and spam.
So I started with rapidshare.com to upload an .it file extracted from the ModPLug archive.
I could directly start uploading without any form writing or registering, so that's a plus.
http://rapidshare.com/files/371775864/blasa_littlepearl.it.html
Generated text after uploading :
Your file has been saved and can now be downloaded 10 times. It will be deleted after 60 days without download. If you would like to enable more people to download your file, please transfer it to a free Collector's Account or a Premium Account.
The free Collector's Account asks for a registration with ID/PW plus email address. That's a minus.
For downloading a 25 sec delay is included. To get something for free, I find that quite acceptable.
2 uncloned :
I fully appreciate your solution to offer space for the ModPlug Download Center archive.
But I don't understand the construction.
Zipped modules, not necessary, but, ok, but why is every zip filled with a readme.txt which is no longer valid ?
this might help too: http://www.audiohostings.com/
QuoteAudio Hostings - free audio hosting sites
Right now there are 19 free audio hosting sites where you can store music files - mp3, wav, wma files and more.
So if you are looking for free mp3 file hosting service you have come to the right place, just choose the
perfect music file host from the list below.
info listed: max. audio size // registration required // file types // detailed server info.
I recently made an account at soundcloud, its a web-based musicplayer + sosial networking in one.
Here is my page: http://soundcloud.com/rakib
And you have http://www.dance-industries.com/ for those who make electronic music.

...and there is a streaming-function that supports at least mp3 and wav files (others not tested yet). Unlike the "one-click-filehoster" (Rapidshare, Mediafire, Uploaded.to etc.) the files won't be deleted after a period of time.
Since I'm using an ad-blocker, I can't say if there is any spam, but I don't think so.
If you wish, you can "test" it by clicking the link in my signature. Meanwhile all my songs are hosted at box.net....
[edit] Almost forgotten:
Happy Easter everybody... [/edit]
sooner or later, every free "all-purpose" hoster either closes down or adds a massive amount of ads to their pages. getting some proper hosting is really the only solution.
yes and sooner or later, eath will explode..

Hi Sam,
I did nothing to the files.
MrX FTP'd the files to my website from his backups. I doubt he did anything with them as well.

it happened often enough already. file hosters are getting unreliable pretty fast.
Happy breakpoint, btw! :P
You're kidding rite? xD The last Breakpoint started few days ago and you didnt gave us a notification to fire up the live streaming sites?
I haven't seen any updates on the sourcecode some days now, figured something was happening.
