What is the difference between, No interpolation, Linear, Cubic spline, Polyphase and XMMS Modplug?

Which is recommended?

Especially old samples are recorded at low sampling rate. if you play them in a modern tracker, you would have to "expand" them, so that f.e. 8000 hz would fit into the 44100 hz scheme. however, to do this, you need to stretch the single "dots" to long "lines" which create a sharp sound. Interpolation softens these lines and the sound is a bit weaker (high frequencies are cut off). the best and most versatile setting would be XMMS, but polyphase sounds good aswell. If you wanna listen to old amiga tunes, you will maybe prefer No Interpolation to recall the feeling of the old computers which had no resampling algorithmn at all ;)
i hope this helps,
