Dear community,
it's a tough decision, but also a very important decision. The current main developers (that is Relabs and me) had a long chat for the last few days and we came to the conclusion that it just doesn't make sense anymore to develop OpenMPT. Today, there are much better and easy-to-use solutions available like Renoise or also Reaper. OpenMPT just can't survive in this world anymore. Therefore, we decided to halt OpenMPT development and also remove the sources from sourceforge.net in about a week, as they're of no use anymore.
This might come as a shock to most of you, I know - But let's face it: It was about time. We really had a very long discussion with many important arguments for and against this step. I've summarized the most important arguments in this document (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwGFalTRHDA). I hope you all can understand our move.

A good one there :)

Finally! I got tired of keeping the website up.
my move to Sonar is finally justified.
Finally! I mean, it's moved from 1.16 to 1.18 in what? 10 years? Seriously, were you guys ever doing any development at all except change the splash screen every once in a while? ;)
Hmmm, Modplug Tracker is being discontinued, eh? Does anyone know of any other programs (excluding Renoise) [for Windows*] that offer more than 1,000 patterns (as this is Renoise's limit as far as I know)?
* Windows: Velvet Studio offers 65,536 patterns, but it is for DOS, not Windows.
Duh.. ::)
I don't mind talking bs here without mpt in development. We have here a good collections of some nice people.

I think that everyone (especially Nahkranoth based on some of his previous posts) would side with you here except for me. I am not quite
that naive. It just so happens that I
do know what the acronym BS stands for in this context. It stands for profanity.
About time you guys finally realized it. All these years of desperate struggling to make it look alive, meh. It wasn't even being resurrected properly, from the time Olivier stopped the old MPT development officially.
Is RWP the only one who has a "different" view on the entire thing? or...
pretty much so. when will you take the forums down?
oops, it's not even april 1st anymore... Seems like what I wrote yesterday was utter bullshit!
what has been said, cannot be unsaid. :D
cant get away that easy.

That is very true. Even though you
can delete the post, it remains in your memory. Depending on what the post was, you may or may not regret posting it. Of course, in the case of everyone here except for me, posts that they regret are likely those that do not contain what would likely be categorized as unwholesome talk (profanity). That is unfortunate, but it is entirely possible that it is also very true.
mpt has been my sequencer of choice since as long as i can remember. 1996-7? almost 15 years now. as archaic and antique a program as it is, the framework for composition and production in MPT shaped and defined the way i produce and record music. i still use it for most of my sequencing, in Ubuntu via Wine. before that i used it in OS X with Darwine. RIP
Quotempt has been my sequencer of choice
that hurt :D

That too. Did you not notice that it was April 1st?
Then get crackin on MPT4Nix! LOL
I was late to the party, and even my jaw dropped....
Don't ever do that again!! :P
Here i was gearing up for some big changes that i was going to try to make, just to find out it was disappearing...all of you may not know this, but ModPlug is the only one i (we) use. It's the best free tracker out there, as far as features and simplicity. The learning curve is shallow and now with the help manual, diving in is much easier. Because it's open-source, new users who also happen to know how to program can make improvements.
I have Renoise, ReVisiT, and even Synthfont on my hard drive, but all music gets composed on MPT, because it can get done quickly. Even though the mastering capabilities in MPT is rudimentary, i know it well enough to do all my mastering, for both my songs and Tassel of Blue's, with ModPlug.
Here's hoping it never goes away!!
So, is OpenMPT not discontinued then? That was a good joke. I did notice that that post was submitted on April Fools' Day. I simply saw it and thought that it was legitimate. So, how many patterns does reViSiT offer? If I had to guess, I would guess 256.

"NO."

Install it and try it out yourself.

I would say "YES", "SURE", "INDEED" or simply "BINGO".

"NO." would be appropriate for this question Rakib. :D
as a true tracker fan i couldnt found a better forum or topic to anounce this news for skaletracker fans.
www.skale.org
that was it to come...
well, sk@le has been dead for years already...

as a user i have to agree. I'm part owner nothing to say but ok.
sad that the posts on the forum declined significantly in recent years, no news related to the free tracking software and no development anymore.
twas a joke and a good one Samplekit.
i was off topic excuse me:)
'twas a joke indeed. I fell for it too. It would be nice to see native IMF support though (since it does not appear to be implemented fully yet).
Can you please ignore this thread now... People are really going to be believe it if it stays at the top of the forum for weeks. :P
RWP: Can you please shut up now? ModPlug is not an AdLib tracker! You are talking about a completely different music format which happens to have the same file extension as Imago Orpheus modules. ModPlug is not an AdLib tracker, and I have told you that before. Mentioning impossible feature requests again and again doesn't make them more likely to happen!
Same with madtracker, it's been promised for a long time now that the software was going to be open source after years of no development. But no progress has happened. I think when mad tracker will be open source we can finally finish the support for madtracker files.
Quote from: "Jojo"Mentioning impossible feature requests again and again doesn't make them more likely to happen!
Or more likely, it will make it not to happen, coz the developer will be annoyed like hell from it. =)

The more fun for us right? :D
Anyway, if they read on, they will get the picture anyway, but you can also edit the first post any time, adding a nice, bold text that clearly says something like:
April Fool's day joke, do NOT take it seriously.
I guess that I was unaware that AdLib trackers are different. Sorry
I did manage to get Winamp to play the files. Decoding them to waves though — I have not quite figured that one out.
easy
play the files while at the same time recording the stereo mix (a sound mixer option on most soundcards) in audacity or something like that.
or simply use the AdPlug plugin in XMPlay and use the WAV Writer as an output device. In theory it should be the same in Winamp, but I haven't used it in ages, so I don't know exactly anymore how it was done there.
I have converted from midi to wave using Winamp, but I do not remember all of what I did. As you stated though, Jojo, I would imagine that IMF would use the same (or a least a similar) principle.

hah! that whole day i thought "noones played an april fools joke on me yet~! i must be lucky?". the whole day passed and i assumed i was cleared. i almost shed a tear for MPT.
i realized it wasn't d/ct'ed when i saw code was still being submitted on sourceforge : )
