I've been trying to find a decent tracker to create tracks using Adlib-type FM synthesis instruments, but haven't found any that don't require me to run them in DOSBox or to use a keyboard-only interface... Thats why i'm asking if there's any way to implement such a feature in modplug? There is a variety of the .S3M format that can use Adlib sounds so it probably won't be too difficult to implement. Also, http://adplug.sourceforge.net/ provide a plugin that allows the songs to be played without the need for an OPL chip.
Tough question...
If you'd wanted SID chip sounds, I could point you to goat tracker. There probably is an adlib tracker somewhere, but indeed, Scream tracker 2 (with the stm files) was your best bet I guess.
Isn't there a VSTi that can produce these sounds? You'd be settled instantly that way.
EDIT: how about this one? http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=142078&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0&sid=5c4d8fd625d72199e30cdce12ff92aba
I have no idea if this is useful but because I picked up the word SID :

Thanks for the input. I've tried RADTracker and AdlibTracker but they both require me to run dosbox, and most files arent corrctly saved/loaded with them if i try to open them with modplug... NI's FM7 is close to the original yamaha OPL chips they used in the adlib soundcards and sega megadrive consoles, but it still sounds like a more modern FM synth rather than the oldschool-type adlib tracks. A VSTi for adlib-type FM is a good idea though, i'll definately check that one out.

nice find lp! i like it
Hi guys. If you just want 2-op (OPL2), there are many good trackers, but the best are probably Reality's RAD Tracker, Scream Tracker 3, FM Tracker (can start up with 5 percussion channels ready made) and HSC Tracker. I personally find RAD Tracker easiest and fastest for composition (although tweaking the sounds can become addictive).
For OPL3 tracking (can also do OPL2) your only real option is Subzero and Encore's Adlib Tracker 2:

These are all DOS trackers so if you're running XP or Linux then you will need to configure DOSbox (people have done it so it can be done - it's more important to make sure you have the right sound hardware).
