This is really a simple simple piece centered on the chord I like.. A - E - C#

I work in every chromatic note - just G# seems to stick out.

I felt more comfortable with the first one. Both: maybe a bit too much sustain here and there.

well, yes, I really like piano sustain, this is true. It is what makes it a different instrument for me - you can do it on guitar sort of but you are limited by the number of strings.

the Lucy tuned version uses a tuning that is a type of "meantone temperament" - I'm not sure exactly what that means except in the case of Lucy tuning a bit of error derived from PI is purposely built in - but yet it sounds way more consonant to me than the normal tuning.

Thanks for the listen Sam!

I'm totally a sustain lover too :D and pianos are great instruments, so naturally, the second piece is more appealing to me, i don't mind if its "overdone" on some places.
I'm as calm as a synth without a player.  (Sam_Zen)

Thanks for the listen Psi!

Does the first version seem "out of tune" then?

psishock

absolutely not, it's very much fine too. It was basically a "more the better" question (about sustains), that's why i've picked the second piece.

strangely enough both pieces are from the same midi file - just using a different tuning.

so things like the pedal are identical.

But.... the 12-TET version sustain will clash more.
