Instrumental beat

Name Beat: The rain
VST's: Bloody overdrive & Compressor
Style: General hiphop
Filesize: 1,42 MB
Song Lenght: 0:01:33
Bitrate: 128 kbps
About the beat: I called this song The rain becaeuse i thought its kinda like on a rainy day.

The thing i learned with this beat is set volumes..mostly set all sample/instrument volumes open (64).
And listen to it what changes with vst (effects & volumes). and the general volume/sample volume.

It takes time to find the right volumes balance!

Hope you like the song

Maybe I'm an old geezer, but is this a song ? I would call it a structure, to make a song.
Volume balance is ok.
What rests is the panorama balance. Every sound appears to be in the center.

Is that Dire straights samples I hear in there?
This needs vocals :D

Its not a must, but it certainly adds value to your track.

I forget to do pannings from time to time too, and I also like to keep much stuff in the middle, but you should see it as follows:

You can have a big room, but if you keep it centered, you only use the hallway.

That means that your entire song, uses much less space, and will sound more compact. It makes doing mixing/mastering harder as there's not much room to bring out an instrument. Panning helps to get things in a wider perspective, allowing you to notice also the stuff playing in the background.

"yes.. I think in this case it was wishful thinking: MPT is makng my life hard so it must be wrong" - Rewbs

My Dad is a real big fan of Dire Straights, I grew up hearing them all the time, so it was kind of easy, I'll even go so far as to guess that the samples are from Brothers in Arms :D

You could actually turn this into a really nice sounding electro style remix of brothers in arms too :D

You're quite focused on the right volume balance thing, but as LPChip said, it's not only a matter of loudness of each instrument to being able to hear it apart from the others. The own unique position in the L-R field plays an important role.
Consider your instruments as part of a band. Ever saw a group on stage where they were all located in the center ?

You can easily check the difference using an existing tracker-piece, and enable Prologic sound via Setup/Player.
You will hear a 'wider' panorama.

@Sam_Zen :What can i do better?

In the general set the channel with initial pan.

Or put the codes in the channels L/R...

And what makes the differents?

Edit : here the song with only channel panning : The_Rain in general..

(you didn't told about checking the Pro Logic yet)

I'm no betknower.. :)
Don't first start asking "what's the best" to others, without investigating the different options yourself.
Panning is also part of composing, not only the notes and volumes. There are several ways of tuning the panning,
but there is no 'better' or 'best'.

Because you have to got an idea first where in the scene, you want your instrument to be, before you choose
or try one of these methods, and check which one realizes your spot as you want it to be.

And also think before in a logic way about the consequences of each method.
You already mentioned two :
1- the channel panning and 2- the panning with codes.
Consequences :
1) channel panning puts all samples used in that channel on the same position.
2) pan-codes can be put in the volume column, or in the effect column, so you only have room for one more other code for the note.

Most of the time I use method 3. That of the sample tab : 'Set Pan'. 0 = L, 255 = R.
To pre-position each single instrument (it can be overruled by codes from 2)
There is also nr 4 on the instrument tab with the pan envelope, but that's too much for the moment.

Yes, ok, i get it..

I must figger things out myself before i begin to ask :)

I think the songs is fine right now (maybe longer i know).

What i did is put code on it and set the panning on each sample in the volume collumn. (No channel panning anymore!)

Thanks for the advice, this i something i can use in my other beats 2.

Please can someone tell me the whole code for : p15 / p10

I mean the wholefrom left to right panning code

Update is right Here

You improved the piece.

'Must' is the wrong word. I have no right, and I don't want, to tell you what to do.
But sometimes it's more efficient to try things out with some patience. Then one gets a clearer view of what one understands and what not. So one can formulate a more precize question with the useful data, which helps finding the answer.

A forum is to 'figger' out things together, so it would be silly to say 'first find out for yourself before asking anything'.
Because then you wouldn't have a question anymore.. :)
